If you would like more money for the advancement and application of your skills as opposed to being promoted out of what you enjoy doing most, then do your research and make your case.

Research salaries for your location for positions that describe what you have been doing. Give examples of how you have been doing those things and doing them. Do your homework, and come to your boss prepared. Finally, make sure that you are actively seeking out needs for improvement and coming up with possible solutions to fulfill those needs. Whether it be development itself, or the process that surrounds it, there is always room for improvement.

Start with how you can improve. How can you add value and be the example that other developers need? Prove your solutions by showing them in action.
